This evening's EK37 now on its way after a diversion to Vienna. Not sure why.
My girlfriend who lives in Kings Heath, phoned me at around 8.45pm. She said she was in the garden and heard a 'roar'. She looked up to see a huge aeroplane, saying she thought it might be the same type that we went to see on it's first service. I asked what colour it was, to which she said 'white'. 'What about the tail?', I asked. 'It had some green on it' she said. I explained that it was the Emirates A380 and was indeed the aircraft we went to see on it's inaugural service.
I thought that the timing seemed odd and assumed a delay. With regard to the Vienna diversion, I would think this most likely for medical reasons (although pure speculation on my behalf).

Part of the lower airbrige roof has collapsed and sheared the wires / electrics

That's quite concerning! I assume these things have an annual check, equivalent to an MOT.

It's extra travel for the post new year rush, hence the times being in the early evening rather than morning as the last 3rd daily was.

Could you elabourate Ray, sorry to be a pain :)

Apologies, I was in Cornwall with a very intermittent signal.

Arrival 17:30 19:05 EK2643/2644 B77W

Should be an EK 77W and A380 on the ground at the same time on those dates.

It just goes to show where the demand is and why Emirates switched the A380 to the evening flight so quickly. Those days will see circa a thousand seats going each way in fairly quick succession.

Tomorrow sees the last Emirates 77W for the foreseeable future (aside from a few one offs) leaving PIA as the only operator of the type. As of Sunday Birmingham joins the list of airports that handle multiple daily A380's.

If anyone had suggested such a thing a few years ago folk would have backed away....... very.......very....... slowly. There were many who thought that the only way an A380 would be seen at Birmingham would be on a diversion but Emirates have shown that not only is it possible, it is actually flourishing.

Many airports around the world would love to see an A380 even once weekly, so to get two daily is a big achievement and one that all concerned should be very proud of :)

Emirates 777 waves goodbye to BHX :(
Nice video, but we know for a fact that it won't be the 'last ever Emirates B777 at BHX'.
Hopefully, the route will continue to grow and the morning B777 service will be 'un-suspended'.
Personally, I much prefer the A380 over the B777. I've only done 2 sectors on the A380 (SIA, Business class), compared to 8 sectors on the B777 (Emirates x 4, economy. Malaysian x 2 business and Singapore x 2 business). I find the A380 significantly quieter and smoother than the B777. Having said that, on one of the Emirates flights I was sat on the very back row. Going down the runway, every input to the rudder was like being on an horizontal see-saw, so that may have given me a poor early expeience.
I also preferred the A330 over the B777. Don't get me wrong, the B777 isn't a bad aircraft. I've spent many hours on board and would do so again.

Rumour is Emirates is close to announcing an order for the 787...

Whilst Emirates would likely use the 787 to increase frequencies (say double daily 787 instead of daily 777) on some routes, it could also be a good fit for that morning flight to help it grow.

Having flown on both the A380 and the B777, the only benefit of the A380 I noticed was it being a bit quieter. That was mostly outweighed by the longer boarding and disembarking time though. Personally, it comes down to what product the airlines offer - some offer a better product on the B777, some on the A380.

The 787 would seem the perfect aircraft to reintroduce EK41/42 until such time as it can sustain a 77W.

Traditionally their A330's had been used for new services but with them leaving the fleet I believe that ours was the only regional service to come straight in with a 77W? Add in 8x weekly Qatar, an increase to an A380 along with extra capacity from Turkish and Air India and it was always going to be tough. A 787 could be just the ticket (y)

I could also see Emirates using them for markets that they currently cannot get into with a 777. What odds for them putting a 787 into Bristol to compete with Qatar?

Anyone know roughly what the 787 waiting times from order to delivery are?

Pretty long ones I should think.:wideyed: It might eventually depend on APD being devolved to the Welsh Government which would either give Qatar a big boost to its yield or potentially more passengers if it cut fares whilst still improving yield if it got its sums right.

787 will be Emirates' smaller wide-body airplane choice.
Oh yes the 787 the well known SMALL wide body aircraft... How much money do they have, and an A320NEO must be on molecular level for Emirates then....

Indeed Emirate are probably struggling without a smaller option in the fleet on some routes. With Dubai running out of slots they possibly don't want too many smaller planes. Interesting conundrum!

The suggestion is that if they order them this year that Emirates will start getting them from 2021 - so somewhere between 3 to 4 years.

Its been suggested that FlyDubai will move their operations to Al Maktoum this year freeing up slots at Dubai. Potentially more important than that is gate capacity - when I last flew into Dubai (on an A380 as well) we parked on a remote stand and got a bus to the terminal. If they're having to do that now with A380's, how could they possibly fit more aircraft in.

Maybe it will spur them on to really get cracking on the next phases of the new airport.

Indeed - the current plan doesn't have Emirates moving into the new airport until 2025.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
