im not going to claim I know anything more than the rest of the enthusiasts here, and certainly anymore than those that actual know how the industry work.

However, Jet2 do appear to be an airline that is pretty receptive, especially on med routes. If there is a suitable opportunity, they appear to have taken it from BHX and long may it continue. I too hope the day where we may see BHX as the 3rd largest based after MAN and STN aren't too far away but again, maybe wishful thinking.

Im curious to know however:

a) what impact has this growth had on its EMA base?
b) where are the new planes coming from for S'19
c) will we see more city routes come to BHX

Prague, Rome and Krakow are appreciated but I would love the likes of Barcelona, Nice, Budapest for example....

Today’s announcement comes on the back of the recent launch of four other brand new routes from Birmingham Airport (Kefalonia, Pula, Verona and Bergerac) making it a magnificent seven new destinations from the base for Jet2.com and Jet2holidays in Summer 19!

Today’s announcement means that the leading airline and tour operator has 41 destinations on sale from Birmingham Airport, a total of more than 1.6 million seats which represents 30% capacity growth in just its third summer of operations.

From May 2019, the company will operate two weekly services (Mondays and Thursdays) to Bourgas (Bulgaria), meaning almost 16,000 seats in its first year of operation. The destination offers great value for money as well as miles of golden sands along the Black Sea. What’s more, with a range of 2-5 star hotels on sale, holidaymakers can soak up the Balkan sun in resorts such as Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Obzor and St Vlas.

Another great flyer, Stanislav Yevetski, the Bulgarian actor best known for his role as Victor Krum in Harry Potter, has helped this Bourgas announcement get off to a flying start by supporting the launch to his home country, Bulgaria.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ second new destination for Summer 19 from Birmingham is Chania (Crete). In total there are more than 9,000 seats with the award-winning airline and tour operator to the company’s second destination in Crete, in addition to Heraklion. This new route, which operates every Tuesday, gives holidaymakers access to the northwest coast of Crete, opening up blue flag beaches and historic sights in resorts such as Rethymnon, Aghia Marina, Chania Town, Kalyves, Stalos and Kolymbari.

The third brand new destination for Summer 19 from Birmingham is Izmir (Turkey), which has been added in response to the huge demand for great value package holidays to Turkey. With almost 10,000 seats and services every Wednesday, holidaymakers have plenty of choice when it comes to accessing popular family friendly resorts on the west coast of Turkey such as Kusadasi, Cesme, Ozdere and Seferihisar. This brand new Turkish destination is expected to be extremely popular with holidaymakers looking for exceptional weather, great value, and fabulous cuisine with beautiful beaches and the Dilek National Park within easy reach.

In addition to today’s exciting announcement Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has also announced the following from Birmingham Airport:

  • 41 destinations with over 1.6 million seats on sale, a 30% capacity increase

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “We are extremely excited about our Summer 19 programme from Birmingham Airport, which represents enormous growth in just our third summer of operations. The three fantastic brand new destinations announced today give holidaymakers even more choice with our award-winning airline and package holiday business, and mean a grand total of seven new destinations for customers from Birmingham Airport in Summer 19!

“The addition of flights to Bourgas means we will operate to Bulgaria for the first time, and with resorts such as Sunny Beach on sale, we are expecting it be hugely popular with local holidaymakers. Greece continues to attract holidaymakers in huge numbers, and this new route Chania in Crete opens up the north west of this beautiful island. Finally, Turkey continues to see huge demand, so we are opening up more resorts on the west coast of this fantastic country, by adding flights and holidays to Izmir. We are hugely excited about Summer 19 when we will have thousands of 2-5-star hotels and a fleet of aircraft full of happy holidaymakers enjoying the VIP customer service that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays delivers.”

“These routes offer something for everyone whether its fantastic beach resorts, stunning architecture or interesting cultural experiences passengers are looking for, these destinations have it all.”

This year, the award-winning airline Jet2.com celebrated 15 years of flying, and package holiday specialist Jet2holidays recently celebrated both its 10th anniversary and becoming the UK’s second largest tour operator. The company continues to win a number of awards for its VIP customer service, including winning an unprecedented four accolades at last week’s 2018 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice™ awards for airlines (Best Airline – UK and Best Low-Cost Airline – Europe for the second year running, Best Economy Class in Europe, and the only UK and European airline to be recognised in the Top 10 Airlines in the World category – coming 7th in the prestigious list).

Only happened because of the failure of Monarch. Without that opportunity at BHX Jet2 would not have grown so rapidly at a new base.

maybe so, but they had plenty of advanced warning of monarch`s demise and planned accordingly. Good at business which sadly Monarch were not. They could and should have been where Jet2 is now.

One thing for sure, is that they still have Phil Meeson pulling the strings and Jet2 is still his `baby`. From day 1, as Channex at Bournemouth, he had a business plan and stuck to it ruthlessly, despite what was going on around him. He opened at Leeds, not that long ago, with a new plan and stuck to it..Jet2 holidays was just part of that plan. Everything is long term and sustainable.
I`m not suprised re the rumours but if its not in the PM plan it won`t happen. They start trends (package holidays) not follow them. Not impossible but I would be suprised....unless of course its all part of the plan (y)

Rumours are increasing about Jet2 looking at long haul with 6 A330's

I can see them getting the A330s but I wonder they are more for the short haul side than any attempt to launch long haul. 4 based at MAN and 2 at STN would provide good capacity boosts on the popular routes and as replacements for older 757s or give them the ability to release some 737s for continued expansion at current and possibly future bases. Also in the winter they could be chartered out to cruise companies as well.

CAN JET2 PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY LAUNCH ORLANDO FROM BHX ON AN A330, ITS LIKE THESES AIRLINES ARE BLIND THAT ROUTE WOULD BE A HONEY POT

Nice to see Jet2 are considering the 330's though. Could take on the likes of Virgin Atlantic (in terms of holidays) if they are ambitious. Considering what they are doing on the Short Haul market I don't know if Jet2 would know how to get long haul wrong. :D

The rumour of Jet2 ordering further aircraft to further growth?
Yes i see it and can believe that rumour. Further growth of the 738 fleet and something to replace the 757. They have a trend of announcing things like this at the AGM which is not until September.

The rumour of Jet2 ordering A330 to start long haul?
Not yet. They clearly have a strategy on growth and that concentrates on the med/sun route and city routes. They've still a lot of unserved destinations in Europe and a missing hole in their UK base network.

They've just announced 3 new destinations of which ALL are given very cautious frequencies in their first season to test the market. I suspect all 3 will be given boosts for 2020 (or more bases serve them e.g. CHQ served just from BHX, MAN, probably STN, and LBA for now in 2019. Come 2020 it could be served from those 4 plus NCL, EMA, GLA/EDI).

That doesn't rule out more wide bodies - i can see them using them from MAN & STN in the future to allow for more growth and potentially move fleet around the UK network (e.g. A330 replaces 2 737-800 which can be sent elsewhere. OR stay and help facilitate more growth).

Our neighbors have just returned from the Canaries with Jet2 they know nothing about airlines and wouldn't know a 747 from a tiger moth. I asked them about Jet2 they both sang their praises saying for the first timel in years they were treated as valued customers and made to feel welcome from check in onwards.

Maybe that's the secret.

I've heard plenty of similar stories (y)

There has been more than one occasion where I've spoken to people who always used Jet2 out of EMA and are now using them out of Birmingham.

I have my first trip with Jet2 Holidays in August, really looking forward to travelling with them :)
