Some early electioneering LBAspotter?

It's money what should have already come to Leeds as part of the canned Trolleybus project. In fact it's money that Leeds is long overdue.

It's amazing how offers of money come out of the hat for all kinds of projects when a general election comes around.

Possibly/Maybe! But I guess if Mrs May and the Con's get voted back in after the General Election, at least then Leeds City Council (whomever its run by then) will be able to hold them to their pre-election promise. Saying that we've not heard anything from the opposition parties yet and the is still 6 weeks to go.
Oh and before that we have the local elections to get though next month first.

I understood that the money is already allocated but it was on condition that the Government had to approve how the money was spent. They perhaps don't trust our Council's and Transport Authority to use it wisely! Now they are happy we should be able to just get on with it. They can't spend it on anything else so there is no point in trying to re-direct it. I would be surprised if Option A is not now confirmed as the chosen option for the link road. I suspect they were not confirming it pending this decision today. The proposed park and ride cannot work without Option A.

Only option A is shown in the updated masterplan so I would fully expect option A to be formally announced shortly. I'll be very surprised if it turns out to be one of the other options.

I thought the link road was out of another pot.

Yeap Money for the A65/A658 Link road is been funded through the £1bn West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund.
But I am lead to believe that both Leeds City Council and the Airport would not confirm which route option they preferred for building of the link road until the Government gave the green light for the £173.5 million in public transport funding, for which was announced this afternoon.

I popped down to the bus consultation meeting at Yeadon Town Hall last night. Mainly about the 97 buses and proposed new No 17 route, bus it was mentioned that £120M of the £173.5M transport fund would be used on bus projects, such as park-and-rides and also investment in new buses to meet Euro 6 emission standards by 2020. Also, they are seeking funding to have catalytic converters fitted to older buses to make them at least Euro 6 compliant. Over to you lbapotter...specialist subject!!.

On top of that was it also not mentioned that First West Yorkshire have also guaranteed to invest £71 million of there own money on fleet replacement of 284 buses in Leeds?

The catalytic converters are to be fitted to the existing Volvo Wright Gemini Hybrids which currently work on the Scott Hall 7/7S routes. To do this work they will have their batteries removed and require a large amount of funding. For which they have applied for!

Send me a PM about the 97 changes and new 17, as thats a new one on me....

No 17 route? What is this you speak off?

I think that Bus 17 is in a report for the WY Transport Strategy referring to new types of buses and the bus links. I found it some time ago, but can't find it now. I my be wrong but it rings a bell!

No. The 17 will be a new bus service route. I can't say to much about it at the moment as not seen the proposal that been drawn up. But its all part of First West Yorkshire's ongoing North West of Leeds bus service review which effects services. 1, 6, 28, 29, 97 & X84.
Phase 2 of the consultation started yesterday, June 19th 2018, 6 Public events are been held over the next few weeks and you'll also be able to submit comments online soon.

PS: This will have no effect on Leeds to Airport service 757 as that is run by Yorkshire Tiger.

Just to clarify, the new No 17 is proposed to run from Leeds pretty much via the No 19 route along Burley Road, Cardigan Road, past the cricket ground, up Queenswood Drive and onto Spen Lane, to rejoin the 97 route on Butcher Hill. The £71M that First Bus are investing was also mentioned, as was a new proposed North Leeds park-and-ride, which is a new idea for which they cannot give any details yet.

Looks like plans for the Airport parkway rail station moved a step forward last week according to this article published in this evenings Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

Rail link to Leeds Bradford Airport moves a step closer

Plans for a railway station serving Leeds-Bradford Airport (LBA) have moved a step closer.

Transport chiefs have given the green light for officials to compile an outline business case for building a rail station at the airport on the Leeds-Harrogate line.
It will provide a minimum half-hourly service to the region’s biggest airport.

Last week a meeting of West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s West Yorkshire & York Investment Committee was told that a new rail station could cost £25m.

It would include building two platforms with station facilities including waiting rooms, shelters, passenger information screens, lighting and ticket vending machines.

There will also be car parking and an interchange for airport shuttle buses.

It said the airport was one of the key assets that could help improve the economic performance of the Leeds City Region, which covers the Kirklees and Calderdale areas.

The airport’s Route to 2030 Strategic Development Plan unveiled earlier this year said LBA was pursuing a rail connection linking the airport with Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate and towns beyond.

Well that 17 bus seems like a complete waste of time.

Rail link is good news; considering we lost the MP who was all for it but we are yet to figure out if the new MP is supportive of this link.

Heard on the radio today that LCC have announced £170 million worth of investments for roads, transport etc. However cannot find the link.

Actually, the No 17 (if it comes off) will be far from a waste of time. The route it will take from Spen Lane will be far quicker into town. And there are a lot of Rhinos fans that would welcome a bus that drops them off at the gates instead of suffering the centre of Headingley.

Yorkshire Tigers new fleet of single deck buses for services 737 & 747 Bradford & Harrogate - Airport routes are set to hit the road from June 29th 2017. Also noticed that Yorkshire Tiger's owners Arriva Yorkshire are now listing all the flying tiger Airport routes on its website.

In rush hour traffic there is going to be very little difference in the 17 to the 97. You ever been stuck on cardigan road at rush hour? It's slower moving then the A660. There are 5 sets of traffic lights on that road, 3 less then half a mile of each other and another two (one round the corner of the other). It doesn't move. And when a bus pulls over to pick up/drop off the whole road comes to a standstill due to the traffic coming other way. Then you've got traffic on Kirkstall lane again with a pelican crossing and a zebra crossing within half a mile of each other.

The route from Spen Lane towards Horsforth on the 97 is somewhat around the houses. Do both 17 ans 97 need to go that way rather than just use the ring road from Spen Lane to the Woodside roundabout?

You can now have you own say regards the changes to First West Yorkshire's 97 service in North West Leeds. 4 options are on the table. Its worth noting that if the new 17 route gets the go a head the current 97 will be axed and it will still continue not to serve the airport. Also Yeadon & Horsforth lose a direct link into Headingley whilst the students at Trinity University will no longer be able to travel to Leeds University.

Option 1: No change to the route or frequency of service 97 – but with a new timetable to improve reliability
Option 2: A 30 minute daytime frequency on service 97 – this would allow us to improve reliability as buses would have more time to complete their journeys
Option 3: The 97 would run between Leeds and Yeadon only on the same frequency as currently - this would allow us to improve reliability as buses would have more time to complete their journeys
Option 4: A new route 17, instead of the 97, running from Guiseley to Leeds via the 97 route as far as West Park then via Queenswood Drive, Headingley Stadium, Cardigan Road and Burley Road to the City Centre – this would give a faster journey and avoid some of the congestion on the A660.

I myself have chosen options 1+3. Have your own say here: https://www.firstgroup.com/leeds/mo...north-west-leeds/yeadon-and-guiseley-route-97
