Hi All. Thanks for the advice about Sheldon Country Park. Not long been back in Essex from a weekend up in Solihull. Popped to the park today with the family principally to watch the A380 depart. Great atmosphere up there with spotters, snappers and ball kickers worshipping the sun. A great sight.

We were greeted with an array of TUIs, a smattering of Flybes and a few Jet2 landing plus a few others including a red and white one which I cannot recall.. I was struck by how busy the airport was. Pretty constant traffic and a far far cry from the days when I used to frequently visit. "Dad. What do you call a traffic jam with planes?" Nathan asked.

As for the 380: wow. That is one heck of a sight and so quiet once the initial thrust had been applied which the pilot appeared to do as be turned on to the runway. My son was leaping; my daughter weeping "I wanna live here ist is sooooooo goooood." And my wife ambivalent.

Sadly did video it but not much cop and you lot have seen it all before.

One other thing: does anyone provide a mobile ice cream, drinks or burger can there? Could make a small fortune and pay a little towards the upkeep of the lovely park.

All in all as my daughter said: " I wanna live here!" Great way to spend a few hours. You are lucky...when I passed Stansted on the way back 4 ryanair on the trot...as if the M11 is not boring enough.

Cheers all.:)

Glad you had a good weekend back up in the Birmingham Area, weather wasnt too bad either :)

As you say Ian the choice of Airlines we have at BHX is something we do forget very easily when things are not always going in the right direction. Jerry from CWL made the same comment the other day after i posted a few pics of my visit on Friday. As you say STN full of Ryanair and Easyjet, BRS mostly Easyjet etc etc

We regularly take the kids there for a bike ride and I say exactly the same thing pretty much every time.

For future reference, if you follow the path past the runway and up the fairly steep hill it brings you to a footbridge that crosses the railway. On the other side there is a decent cafe, newsagents, chip shop, Subway and Deli. Alternatively walk in the opposite direction to the small farm where there is a cafe selling drinks, food and ice creams. Both are probably 10 to 15 mins or so.

Glad you had a good weekend and such great weather :)
