[textarea]Airline switches airport

EasyJet is switching services between London Luton and Belfast International Airport to the George Best Belfast City Airport on January 7.

It is hoped people will find a benefit from flying to and from an airport closer to Belfast.

It puts easyJet in direct competition from Belfast City to London airports with Ryanair, flybe and BMI.

I have been thinking that this would happen for a while. The Ryanair base at the city airport is becoming a huge threat to other carriers presently using the International airport. I wouldn't be at all surprised if other airlines followed suit, Jet2 and Bmibaby spring to mind.

[textarea]Easyjet to axe Belfast-Southend route

Easyjet has cancelled its Belfast to Southend service with effect from January 6 next year.

The news comes a day after we reported that the budget carrier is showing confidence in the Belfast market with the launch of two new routes in summer 2014

I would imagine this will come as a bigger blow for Southend rather than Belfast who have already been promised two new routes for summer 2014.

Belfast International has 3 new routes.
Isle of Man 2 weekly Monday and Friday.
Naples and Valencia both 2 weekly on Tuesday and Saturday. Starting from the 22nd June 2018.

easyJet growth in Belfast continues as airline welcomes sixth aircraft and four new routes take off

Sixth easyJet aircraft to be based in Belfast arrives today

First flights take off to the Isle of Man and Venice today and to Naples and Valencia tomorrow.

easyJet summer flights from Belfast have increased by 8% to over 600 flights a week.

easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, is celebrating a milestone for expansion at its Belfast base today, welcoming a third A320 aircraft - the sixth aircraft to be positioned at the airline’s Northern Ireland base.

The 186-seat aircraft will remain based in Belfast throughout the year and joins three 156-seat Airbus A319 and two 186-seat A320 aircraft serving the airline’s customers in Northern Ireland. Due to the volume of inbound easyJet flights at Belfast International Airport, the addition of this aircraft means that the airline offers capacity equivalent to up to 13 aircraft.

Today also marks the launch of the latest routes to join easyJet’s Belfast network with first flights to the Isle of Man and Venice taking off today, followed by flights to Naples and Valencia which launch tomorrow, 23rd June. The airline now operates up to 624 flights a week across 32 routes and 8% more flights compared to summer 2017.

  • Flights to the Isle of Man operate twice a week throughout the year, with fares starting from £22.66*
  • Flights to Venice operate twice a week throughout the year, with fares starting from £27.71*
  • Flights to Naples operate twice a week throughout the summer season, with fares starting from £18.70*
  • Flights to Valencia operate twice a week throughout the summer season, with fares starting from £26.70*

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating further expansion at Belfast Airport. The addition of another aircraft and even more routes will help us to deliver long term, sustainable growth at the base providing passengers with a greater range of destinations, all with low fares and great service.

“Our ongoing growth demonstrates the airline’s long-term commitment to Northern Ireland, and with fares as low as £18.70*, that’s 37% cheaper than when we launched our first route for £29.99 from Belfast over 18 years ago.

“easyJet is the largest airline in Northern Ireland and we are proud to have carried over 55 million passengers in that time.”

Graham Keddie, Managing Director at Belfast International Airport, said:

“Belfast International Airport welcomes the new easyJet routes to Naples, Venice, Valencia and the Isle of Man. The addition of a sixth easyJet aircraft to the five already based at the airport is a huge boost. In a year that we expect will be record-breaking for the airport, this enhances our route offering for passengers and also shows the value that easyJet places upon its operation at Belfast International Airport and the importance of the Northern Ireland market.”

easyJet has flown over 55 million passengers since it launched operations from Belfast over 18 years ago, and over 4 million passengers in FY 2017. The airline continues to be the largest carrier serving Northern Ireland, operating over 70% of flights from Belfast International Airport and almost 50% of all commercial passenger traffic across Northern Ireland.

I see the Easyjet flight to PMI last sunday evening got cancelled.
Easyjet said the cancelled flight was down to the crew tired. Makes you wonder what is going on over in Belfast.
Pax were offered other flights by what ever means, but 1 woman was offered a flight on tuesdat the 21st august. She was only going for a week so she told rhem not to bother as most of it gone now trying to get to PMI.

I read last week on another forum that one of the big easyJet London airports (I think it was Luton) has been suffering a lot of cancellations in recent weeks, it seems because of problems with crewing. easyjet at BRS sufffers from this at times - usually when aircraft are very late and crew hours an issue - so understanding that it appears to be an airline problem generally does tend to put the BRS picture into some sort of context.

I don't think the newspaper article re easyJet at BFS to which you allude made it completely clear whether the staff fatigue was something that would have made them illegal in terms of hours or - and this seems the more likely from the tenor of the article - two crew members felt too tired to carry on safely even if they were still within their legal hours.

With the Easyjet flights from BFS does this mean the base is not shut or they will reopen it.

I don't think the easyJet BFS base was shut. The three UK bases they closed this year were Stansted, Newcastle and Southend.
