It was a fantastic game!
I take it was on telly then Jerry, as I think you might have told us had you been off to the Basque Country.

Was the last-minute score a penalty kick, drop-kick or conversion?

It was on Sky Sports and BT Sport. I watched it on Sky as it was too much short notice for me to go. Stadium looks great 32,000 attendance apparently which is also the second highest Challenge Cup final attendance and the highest was when Cardiff played Toulon in Marseille! From shots of the city Bilbao looks a lovely place as well! Gutted i couldn't go but glad i could watch it on TV and watch a great second half come back and Gareth Anscombe to kick the winning penalty in the 78 minute! Hoping now today that Leinster can beat Racing 92 and make it a Pro14 double!

You had a very enjoyable evening then. Whoever gave away that penalty must be an unhappy bunny today.

I watch very little telly these days - haven't done for many years. I only really watch football or rugby or cricket on the box. Cricket is rarely on live on free to air and with the football codes I get very frustrated because tv directors continually seem to 'ball watch' and it's impossible to see how the wider play is developing. I like to see how people are moving off the ball and how team shapes are holding up. I find myself shouting at the telly to pull the camera back.

Mrs Yokel does watch some telly but she is not that keen either, hence we've never bothered to get Sky, although Sky News is available on free to air.

My ISP is BT and they used to provide BT Sport with the basic package. When they began charging extra for BT Sport I opted out because I found I watched very little when it was included in the basic charge.

Well the Gloucester Captain and later the coach were very vocal about that as they felt it wasn't a penalty for holding on. I didn't listen to their press conference but apparently they spent most of it moaning about the ref! Gloucester's Captain and head coach weren't very gracious in defeat and i do think rugby is going down the football route where all managers and head coaches do is complain about and blame the referee rather than themselves.

I have a sports pacakge through Virgin Media mostly for the rugby on Sky Sports, don't really watch BT Sport, though for next season i'll have to get a subscription for Premier Sports for the Pro 14 it's £2.50 a week but from what i've heard i can watch every Pro14 game every week and it means i'm guarenteed to be able to watch Cardiff every week no matter who the opposition.

It's money. Even the game of cricket (traditionally synonymous with fair play - 'it's not cricket') has gone down that path.

The last living flight crew of the dam busters sortie johnny Johnson lives in Bristol,he is in his 90s now. Film makers have been doing a up grade to the dam busters movie and he has had some in put to the film. The same thing was done yesterday with a fly over and a dinner afterwards, cant remember the air field this was done yesterday.I think its great to get input etc from these guys as time goes by they pass away and a lot of info is lost.

Attempts have been made in recent years to invest Johnny Johnson with a knighthood as a recognition of himself and of all the crews who took part in that raid. Instead, he was awarded the relatively low level MBE last year.

There is still an underlying reluctance in some government and other Establishment circles to fully embrace the activities of Bomber Command in WW2, especially the carpet bombing of cities such as Dresden late in the war, although no-one knew for certain at the time that it would be late in the war.

I quite agree he should be awarded a knighthood as Johnny and all the other crews so much. Some body else must have thought along them lines to make a film out of it.
With the original film had a few tweeks and changes it will be in the cinemas later this year.

Does anybody know if there is any industrial action planned at all this week in Italy as I'm off to verona on weds and was hoping to avoid the hassle mathers had!

This weekend marks a year since the Champions League final was played in Cardiff and an economic assessment believes that Cardiff directly benefitted from the final to roughly £45 million at least with 300,000 visitors coming into the city for the final and Cardiff Airport saw an additional 380 aircraft movements. Also last year as a whole Cardiff saw 20 million people visit the city.

I've long been a football fan - of the game, not the obscene amounts of money that often runs through it to reward mediocrity - but it does show the grip the game has on the world and those areas/cities involved in high profile football events enjoy commensurate financial rewards.

The city of Cardiff's international profile will rise further with the Premier League next season. The Prem might not be the most skilful league in the world but it is the most exciting to watch and the global audience responds accordingly to make it the most watched.

For a city it's size Cardiff does get to host a lot of events, having the Principality stadium helps with that but the city does attract other stuff as well like the Volvo Ocean race in the Bay this week and i believe there will be a host of Cricket World cup matches as well during June and i think Beyonce will be playing in the city this summer as well.
Having a Premier League team and a Champions Cup rugby team and hopefully keeping them in those competitions will no doubt increase the amount of visitors to the city!

Being interested in people and their views, I often strike up conversations with strangers. When I visit Australia I sometimes ask locals which towns or cities in the UK they've heard of. Initially I was surprised at some people being aware relatively of unknown towns/cities. I asked one or two how they knew of the likes of Blackburn or Bolton and the reply was that they had seen their football clubs on tv in Oz in the Premier League (both were in the Prem when I asked). Someone also told me they knew of Swansea because of its Prem football team.

Even in a country such as Australia where association football is probably not the major sport in any of the states (perhaps surprisingly given the European heritage of so many of their residents) the Premier League still plays a massive part in people's tv sporting habits with a resultant rise in the profile of any town or city with a club in the Prem.

Cardiff's position as the country's capital already brings it a host of events as you point out which obviously helps its economy. Further worldwide exposure in the Premier League will increase its spread.

Yeah Cardiff do host a wide range of events.

Currently the Volvo race at the Bay
Tonight see both Beyoncé and Jay Z opening their world tour at the Principality Stadium.
09 June - Sterephonics at the Cardiff City Stadium
15 June - Next weekend will see the Rolling Stones Principality Stadium
21-24 June - Ed Sheeran will also hold 4 night event at Cardiff Principality Stadium
24 Sep - Kylie at the Motorpoint Arena

I also heard that negotiations are underway regarding Anthony Joshua next title fight and there remains a possibility that it will be in the UK and Principality Stadium the location as it seems he liked the atmosphere in the last two fights.

Interesting article on the dificulties and logistics of organising a professional teams tour of a country the other side of the world.

Very interesting read.

I suspect that Argentina is more difficult to organise given its size and relatively under-developed nature of parts of the country. I'm guessing that countries like South Africa, Australia and New Zealand might be less difficult - I don't say easy because these sort of logistics are never that.
