If the reduction is
Well he did say many of his advisory team wanted to launch from BRS but he also said that operationally that wasn't possible. I do know that having it axed so savagely is embarrasing for the airport but hopefully that will be it and the service will be left to grow but i do wonder at the viability of a hub service at 4 weekly.
Did he actually say that some of his team wanted BRS? I can't remember reading that. What he did say was something along the lines that Wales won and Bristol lost. When he alluded to some of his staff querying CWL I read the context of their not being convinced that a South West Britan route was viable full stop.

I also took it in that context.

Going back to earlier, even though Qatar is an IAG stakeholder and oneworld partner, I find it strange how they will lease aircraft out to BA at the expense of it's own operations. We hear Cardiff wasn't going daily initially due to aircraft availability and then it's announced Qatar is trying to lend it's aircraft out.

There's also the Air Italy operation that's supposed to see some 787's, I can understand they are keen to do some explosive expansion, but it's again at the expense of Qatars own routes. Oh well, what do I know.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he did. I think it was when they announced the route in an interview he said it. He mentioned political lobbying and some of his team wanting to go Bristol and he chose Cardiff.

He did mention in an interview that they would look at trimming some frequencies on some routes to free up the aircraft. Guess that includes Cardiff as well!

Just wish more time was given for the route to work.2 weeks of operation tells nothing, unless bosses at Qatar have got their crystal balls out working. Its even too early in my mind to say use it or loose it.If there was doubts it would not work,i then they should have hung on a little to advertise the route
This is not looking good for the airport and also make other airlines look at it if they were starting operations out of CWL.

I have noticed an oddity on the airport's website departure board and that is the Sunday morning departure is still there yet it's not onsale on Qatar's website.

I just hope that these cuts don't damage the efforts and ability of the airport in attracting new airlines and new routes.

You know as well as me jerry. Bad news always does the rounds quicker than bad news. Lots of times good news does not get mentioned.
In hind sight perhaps CWL would have been better not having Qatar.
All it can hope is things get better and the flights that do operate will have good pax loadings. Then perhaps they will start adding days it will operate.

Some of my posts read negative which cant be helped with the situation,in some cases it has to be negative to get the posatives out of things.

In terms of QR loads at other airports, I can only speak for MAN which has 16 flights a week normally.

I would say that May & June tend to be the weakest months. It's getting too hot in the ME and in Australia for example it's late Autumn/Winter.

In March this year, I reckon MAN's average load was 214 based on the CAA stats. There are 254 seats on the B788. However, in May last year, the A/L was only 159.

Numbers at MAN in the past have picked up in July/August, presumably school holidays having an impact for trips to Thailand etc.

I'm not sure what the typical advance booking period is for QR but I imagine their number crunchers and Revenue management will have a reasonable picture from advance bookings for Cardiff. Freight is the other important ingredient.

Someone on the Wales forum has just posted this.

Just checked the Qatar website and from mid June the services is daily QR324 at 0805 Tu/Th/Sun and QR322 Mo/We/Fr/Sa. And five a week in the Winter. Go on the Qatar website click Discover then timetable quite easy.

This is absolutely correct but if the poster had then gone a stage further and clicked 'search' at the bottom of the timetable page he (from the user name it sounds like a he) would have discovered that the non-stop direct flights are as the reduced frequency highlighted in this thread over the past day.

Yet again a section of the aviation industry has got its public communication all wrong. If the frequency has been reduced, as seems increasingly likely, why can't the airline and the airport for that matter tell the public? They were quick enough to announce the route when it was announced and the opening of the route a couple of weeks ago was almost like a royal progress. It's not just Qatar and CWL that are so cavalier with their dealings with the public. Most airlines/airports are like it at one time or another.

Someone thinking of using Qatar from CWL who is not as clued up as some could look at the timetable, tell other members of the party, make some plans (not many hopefully before confirming a flight but some people don't think like that) before discovering the service is not as timetabled by the airline. The Wales forum poster was misled.

I frequently despair of airlines. A similar situation currently exists with BRS and the BACF route to Ibiza this summer.

Either there is a major glitch in the Qatar web booking engine or there has been a reduction in frequencies of direct non-stop flights. Either way it needs addressing urgently both for booked passnegers and for any who might be thinking of booking.
I can’t think of a better way of putting it TLY!

No-one wants to see the route fail, I myself have flights booked on the route in November and would like to hear as soon as possible what is going on! Currently I cannot book the same flights I’m currently booked on using the Qatar website and the seat selector only showing three seats taken, so clearly not full!

There are many out there who think because we have mentioned this finding with the booking system that we are just causing trouble..... but as you’ve pointed out there clearly is a glitch on the website and daily flights are not currently bookable. Something needs to change or an announcement made soon so the travelling public are not left in the lurch and route/airport left with a bad reputation.

If it is a glitch then it needs rectifying as soon as possible so people can continue to book. If it's not a glitch then they need to be more transparent so people know what is happening and so they can continue to support the route.

Just had a quick check and it looks like on the app it's back to daily flights again
My desktop computer booking engine is now showing the flights restored too. An hour or so ago when I checked it was still showing the reduction. How can these things happen? Technology in this sort of thing is fine when it works but when it doesn't it's confusing at best and entirely misleading at worst. Hopefully, the gremlin, or whatever it was, wasn't in the system long enough for any bookings to have been lost.

Someone on another forum has posted, Bit of egg on some faces methinks, true colours have been shown. I think the only face with egg on it is that of Qatar Airways in this situation.

Anyway, it gave us something to chat about for the past 24 hours.:D

Computers seem to have a special skill at causing problems at the perfect time. Bit embarrassment for Qatar but these things happen and until it’s pointed out these things won’t be spotted. As for wales air forum comment about egg on face take it this is the moron who is dragging the site down who thinks he’s some for of aviation expect.

CWL now appears on the drop down of Virgin Holidays website showing packages with QR flights to the Far East!
