Four aircraft holding overhead.

Ryanair Gerona
Flybe Belfast
Aer Lingus Dublin
Ryanair Vilnus

Not sure why?

The weather didn't seem too bad when they were holding unless it was the cloud base.

Strong winds forecast for Monday with winds gusting to 60mph from a westerly direction.

That may cause diversions, including the black, white and gold based Norwegian A320s. Apologies for the hint of sarcasm in what is a very trying and unsettling time, especially for the ZB staff.

If you listen to the Monarch Administrators KPMG, it seems to be IAG in the driving seat for the juicy bits of Monarch.
They would have to be very careful selling any parts to Norwegien Airways, their in the same financial boat as Monarch as they have had huge currancy losses as the kroner has weaken against both the dollar and the euro

I'd imagine IAG would be desperate to get hold of the Gatwick slots to stop Norwegian Airlines. I'd also hope they would look at the other airports and take up routes from there. Maybe an opportunity for a Vueling UK or a Level UK?

Don’t know if it is of interest to anyone but according to the airport website tomorrow evening Ryanair flights to Malaga and Alicante have both been cancelled along with the return flights. Guessing this is part of the cancellations Ryanair is carrying out at this period?

No that's not case this time around as its actually due to the froggies again. ATC have a strike planned for tomorrow.

They like to give 24hours notice now! So many people have been attempting to rebook but with Monarch’s demise everything is full up until November now - don’t forget October half term is only next Friday (20th)!

Think the email said 213 cancelled flights throughout FR’s network tomorrow! 30% reductions at both Paris Orly and CDG as a minimum too!!!!

Its 31 years old.....these old aircraft must be costing them a small fortune to maintain and repair.

Why? Age doesn't necessarily translate into higher operating costs on airliners. Irrespective of age they all go through strict maintenance regimes and all cost a lot to keep in the air. We have already seen that even new aircraft have problems from time to time. If what you are saying was true, no airline would ever buy older aircraft. You are also forgetting that older aircraft are considerably cheaper to buy in the first place, or lease, so at the outset there is a capital saving by using them. Jet2 wouldn't even be where it is had it not been able to buy a fleet of aircraft at relatively low cost until they were established. It is no surprise that now they are a 14 year old well established airline they are able to start bringing in brand new aircraft but they are still operating a healthy fleet of older airframes and no sign of many of them departing any time soon. BA do the same. Do you really think they would keep them if they were costing so much money that they were no longer viable?

The engines on it won't be 31 years old and this was reported to be an engine issue. If if the aircraft gets to the point where it is no longer worth maintaining it they will scrap it as they have with quite a few already.

I think the reason the press were negative about the age was in relation to the airframe, we all know of incidents of decompression caused by fatigue, where the structure has failed some have ended in disaster! Aloha Airlines when the roof was ripped off Japan Airlines 123 I think it was when a tail strike repair wasnt done correctly and then failed some several years later and China Airlines 611, tail strike 1980s, and incident 2002

In some respects older aircraft are safer than newer aircraft as they are tried and tested. Look at all the problems Boeing had with the Dreamliner initially?
