CAA stats October 2014

I haven't looked at NQY's figures on here for a long time. After experiencing a difficult time through then recession it's now on the up.

In October 16,475 passengers used the airport an increase of 30.6% on October 2013. Atms were up 21.4%. Rolling 12-month total was 210,357, an increase of 19.3% on a year ago.

The LGW, MAN and BHX routes are primarily responsible for the positive figures.

NQY is beginning to recover its passenger numbers in an impressive manner. In 2008 it saw a record 431,000 passengers which by 2012 had dropped to 166,000. Thereafter a recovery set in with 174,000 in 2013, 219,000 last year and 248,000 in the last 12 months.

CAA stats December 2015

In December the airport handled 12,942 passengers, up 0.5% on December 2014. Atms were down by 8.2% which suggests that aircraft enjoyed higher loads generally. The rolling 12-month total and the total for 2015 as a whole was 250,278 which is an impressive 14.2% increase on 2014.

After reaching a record breaking total of 431,000 passengers in 2008 the airport had slumped to 166,000 annual passengers by 2012. Since then there have been annual increases with 2015 particularly noteworthy.

It seems that with the extra flights announced for 2016 this year should continue along the positive course of the past few years.

CAA Stats March 2016

Progress continues to be made with 18,564 passengers handled in March, an increase of 14.5% on March 2015. Atms were up by 9%. Rolling 12-month total was 254,704, up 16.8% on a year ago. It's very encouraging to see this upward movement in routes, carriers and passenger numbers.

With its 2,744 metre runway NQY has easily the longest airport runway of any in the south west quarter of Britain so is certainly not restricted in the types of aircraft it can operate..

April 2016

CAA stats published at long last. 30,422 passengers passed through the terminal, up a massive 61.2% on April 2015. Atms were up 25.9%. Rolling 12-month total was 266,252, up 20.7% on a year ago.

NQY's roll continues, as was anticipated.

May 2016

Yet again a big delay waiting for the May CAA stats - we'll have to get used to this.

Worth waiting for though because 37,828 passengers used the terminal in May, an increase of 55.3% on May 2015. Atms were up 27.2%. Rolling 12-month total was 279,727, up 23.7% on a year ago. Good stuff!

June 2016

The CAA has published some stats in the past couple of days but they are in a mess as the authority has been forced to admit. Some tables have been discontinued and others not published at the moment including the 'league table' of airports.

Nevertheless by trawling through those tables that are available, doing some maths and comparing them with the tables a year ago, I've arrived at these figures for NQY in June.

42,347 passengers used the terminal, up 51.33% on June 2015. Rolling 12-month total was 294,091, up 26.2% on a year ago. So the spectacular rise continues!

Great news for the airport.. I wonder if some of this is also down to the poldark effect!

Possibly. It's said that the German 'invasion' of Cornwall in recent years is partly due to the popularity of British author Rosamunde Pilcher whose books were filmed in Cornwall and shown on German television.

Does anyone have the latest passenger numbers for NQY, July and August? I'm guessing good numbers on last year adding to a healthy total for 2016....

Unless NQY issues its own passenger figures, and I'm not aware that they do but would love to be contradicted, we can only rely on the CAA. They used to issue provisional figures within 15 days or so of the month in question ending, ie August figures would be made public in mid September.

This year the CAA has got itself into a dreadful mess with stats, as it's been forced to admit, and we are still awaiting July's and August's. June's were not presented in the easily digestible form of a 'league table' of airports as has been the case for many years. Instead, to ascertain NQY's figures for June, I had to look at a number of tables and extract figures from those, finally coming to a complete total.

As soon as July's figures are published by the CAA I'll endeavour to do the same thing as I did in June and will post the results here.

August's figures might not be published for a few weeks. If so I might not be able to post those as I'll be away from this web site for the whole of November.

The CAA has finally published a 'league table' for June 2016 and NQY's figures are exactly as I calculated above by extracting them from various tables and doing some maths.

The CAA has now published July's figures with a 'league table' but the bad news is that NQY is one of many airports not yet included in the first release. If the CAA doesn't update its league table in the next few days I'll try to get the figures from various other tables and do some more maths.

Just an update to my previous post - not positive I'm afraid. The CAA has still not published stats for all UK airports for July 2016 with NQY being one of the airports not included. This means there are still no tables from which the NQY July figures can calculated, even via 'the back door' as I've had to do in recent months.

Even more perverse is the fact that the CAA has now published September's figures for a small number of airports, but again not including NQY, whereas August has been ignored completely.

CAA Stats July 2016

Published at last for Newquay:

50,126 passengers, up 50.4% on July 2015. Atms up 15.2%. Rolling 12-month total 310,890, up 31.7% on a year ago.

CAA Stats September 2016

These show that 41,042 passengers used the airport in the month, an increase of 58.7% on September 2015. Atms were up 9.6%. Rolling 12-month total was 340,003, up 36.9% on a year ago.

Another highly successful month. Some October 2016 figures have been published by the CAA in the past 24 hours but NQY is not amongst the airports featured.

CAA Stats October 2016

The airport 'league table' has been updated today and shows that NQY handled 34,118 passengers in October, up a massive 77.9% on October, 2015. Atms were up 30.2%. Rolling 12-month figure was 354,941, an increase of 41.4% on a year ago.

The coming winter will be interesting.
