Jet2 757 flight from MAN-TFS last sunday. I need to update my MAN scenery though, it still has airbridges on that 60s pier. I am on the understanding that they have been removed for the LCCs apart from Emirates on the end of the pier ?

Hi Brum X

Thanks for sharing your FSX shots.
It looks like you have taken a photo of your monitor. There is an easy way to get FSX to record a screen shot - simply press the 'V' key on your keyboard. If you go to your 'Pictures' folder, you should find a folder named 'Flight Simulator X Files' and your screen shot should be in here. You can press the 'V' key as many times as you like. Each time, FSX will add another screen shot to the folder.
The only slight downside, is that they are saved as'.BMP' files. It's easy enough to convert them to smaller '.JPG' files using something like Microsoft paint.
Hope that's of use.

Kevin

I couldn't tell to be honest. They look a lot better than the ones I took of Infinite Flight.

So is FSX Flight Simulator software you can download or do you have to purchase it and will it run on lap-tops or tablets?

Hi Aviador, you have to purchase it. Ive got the older version which is fine for me but you can now get the updated STEAM version which is supposed to run better. Im not very good with Technology but im sure Kevin will know the difference between older versions and STEAM versions ?

As Brum X says

FSX (or Microsoft Flight Simulator X to give it it's full title) is a payware program for Microsoft operating systems from WinXP through to Win10 (although I've read of people having problems with it on Win10). As such, it will run on PC's or laptops running a suitable operating system. It won't run on tablets.
It's now quite an old program (although still very popular), which relies very heavily on the CPU as opposed to the graphics card, as with modern games.
To muddy the waters, Microsoft developed a commercial version of FSX called ESP. This was aimed at the military and flight training schools. Microsoft sold this to Lockheed Martin who now market it as Prepar3D.
Microsoft then sold FSX to Dovetail Games, who made some improvements and marketed it under their 'Steam' brand as FSX.SE (Steam Edition).
Dovetail Games are now developing a new Flight Simulator FSW (Flight Simulator World), which I think is based on FSX, but vastly updated (it's now a 64bit program, rather than the older 32bit but this means that the operating system must also be 64bit).
Similarly, Lockheed Martin have developed Prepar3D to version 4, which is also 64bit. There is an 'Academic' version of this, aimed at students or those wishing to learn about flying. It's identical to the significantly more expensive 'Professional' version, other than a small 'Accademic Version' title in the top right corner of the screen.

I have treated myself to the Qualitywings 787 simulator for FSX, it is an awesome model and real life. The only problem is its proper real life and ive got loads of manuels and tutorials to read to even get the engines and lights to work, lol.
Oh well it will keep me out of mischief for the next few months and make me into a authorised 787 pilot. :geek:

This is also a Boeing official simulator for FSX

Yes mate i have managed to get the lights working, Windscreen wipers going, flaps working and ive taken off and put it on autopilot but im going to have to read the manuel becouse i aint got a clue how to take it from A to B but im pleased with where i am so far. You have to start from somewhere and ive started so im pleased with my progress. Its such an amazing model and its so real life.
With such an advanced flight sim model there were problems with the installation of the game but i managed to read other people's moans and groans on the Qualitywings forum which was really helpful. As with some FSX games my AVG antivirus was not making the 787 install properly at first but i un-installed it and now its fine. They are such a bug bare sometimes. FSX does not like them at all with some games.

Cant wait for next weekend, hopefully i can load a flight and travel from A to B and land, will keep you posted. :geek:

You could fly up to LBA and have a natter with Aviador. He'd buy you a pint I'm sure even if it was only a virtual one.

All this sounds far too complicated for an old duffer like me. I struggle to load updates for my computer at times let alone install an elaborate flight simulator. It might have been different when I was younger but there was no Internet or flight simulators for home use then.

It does sound fun though. I once had a go on a helicopter simulator at a Royal Navy day at Portsmouth. I could not stop the blasted thing from spinning round and round incessantly.

My 787 cant land at LBA, something to do with a funny runway and hills either side. Maybe i could go to Doncaster Robin Hood instead. Im really passionate about these things being realistic so therefore the above is just not possible. I will have to wait for the revelopment of LBA and a runway extension. ;)

Nah, it's rubbish. The runway does undulate but probably no more than it does at BHX. The hill known as the Chevin is at the North West end of the runway (runway 14) but it never deterred British Airways Concorde, Wardair 747's or Thomson 767's over the years. Runway 32 is a clear run in with no obstacles.
