On the LBA forum there is news that Jet2 are not the only ones stepping up to fill in the gap left by Monarch, as LBA is also seeing expansion from Thomas Cook, TUI, and...Ryanair!

I would be very surprised if these airlines don't add flights at any other ex-Monarch bases.

....hmmm I'm pretty sure the LBA news is more spin than actual fact. With regard to an actual press release / announcement, only Jet2 have come forward so far. The LBA director is talking about growth already announced by those airlines, not actually a response to the demise of monarch. Happy to be corrected tho!

I'm fairly certain the extra capacity at LBA will equate to more bums on seats. Whether the numbers will add up to an net increase is yet to be seen. Monarch based just two aircraft at LBA, the new TCX base will see just one aircraft based, the additional capacity from Jet2, Tui and Ryanair should make up the remaining shortfall plus some I expect. I guess the gap isn't as big to fill at LBA thankfully for them.

If Jet2 base 6 aircraft this winter and operate a full schedule it would make up a big chunk of the lost Monarch capacity, not sure how many Monarch based last winter but do recall that quite a few aircraft were parked up for longish spells so given Jet2 didn't operate last year the winter figures might hold up quite well although obviously we have lost a few other routes, included United now finished

Be intresting to see their revised plans for next year as TUI and Cook short haul seem to just plod along by comparison.

Hi, Haywood the optimist here, I have a solution to one of BHX's current major issues!

Jet2 should lease some/all of the A320/A321's Monarch were leasing, hire the ex Monarch pilots and crew, and when Jet2 begin to recieve some of the 737's they have on order, train the ex Monarch pilots to have a 737 type rating.

More routes, more capacity, jobs for ex monarch employees, stable/similar PAX figures for BHX, problem solved!!

If only things were that simple :(

So, as it stands, Jet2 are five based aircraft up until Christmas when the sixth joins.

Malaga is double daily on Mon and Fri until November.
Alicante is double daily on Mon, Thur and Sat. It now returns to 6x weekly from mid Feb.
Faro is double daily on Sundays until Nov.
Gran Canaria gets a third weekly flight from mid Dec, it stops for a couple of weeks in Jan before returning.
Lanzarote gets a fourth weekly flight, with a fifth added over Christmas.
Tenerife goes five weekly next week, six weekly the week after then seven weekly at the end of the month (double daily on Fri and Sat).
The extra flights to Turin, Grenoble and Rome have already been mentioned.

Increases are planned for S18 and we could find out as early as next week. The summer schedule already has six based aircraft working pretty much flat out so there is likely to be an increased in based units, the question is how many?

User001 on the Manchester forum has posted that Jet2 are interested in getting more A330s next summer. Would be surprised if BHX got one but it may free up some other planes.

Great to see Jet2 filling in. They're the perfect airline to do so as I would put them in a similar place to Monarch (low-cost but more of a service focus than Ryanair and probably easyJet too).

I have to say though...I'm really not keen on Jet2's branding and advertising?? I'm not knocking the company itself, LOVE their positioning, what they're doing for BHX, how much they're investing & supporting our growth etc., don't get my wrong. It's just a bit of an eye sore...reminds me of Ryanair's advertising/website about 10 years ago:facepalm::LOL:

This is such good news in an otherwise horrible week and Jet2 starting to re-instate some of our old Monarch routes. Also they are suggesting on the "other forum" that if we see big expansion from Jet2 in S18 which looks like it might happen, we may get Jet2 self handling.

My only concern then is for the staff at Swissport as they have lost United, Monarch and possibly Jet2, however that isn't Jet2's problem.

Good stuff Jet2 (y) (We loooooooove you)

Another route I'd like to see is Barcelona BCN believe it or not. We only have Vueling 4x weekly and Ryanair 9x weekly as of next year. With MON & NAX gone and drops from VY, that route has lost a LOT of capacity. It used to be over capacity I accept but now I suspect it's underserved.

Great to see the additional Jet2 routes and capacity. 7 or 8 based units next summer?
